Ver detalle de la La Gomera D.O.

FIGURES:

Vineyard surface (Has): 125 – Wine-Growers: 250 – Wineries: 22 – 2019 Harvest rating: Good – Production 19: 45,000 litres – Market percentages: 100% Nacional.

LOCATION:

The majority of the vineyards are found in the north of the island, in the vicinity of the towns of Vallehermoso (some 385 Ha) and Hermigua. The remaining vineyards are spread out over Agulo, Valle Gran Rey –near the capital city of La Gomera, San Sebastián– and Alajeró, on the slopes of the Garajonay peak.

CLIMATE:

The island benefits from a subtropical climate together with, as one approaches the higher altitudes of the Garajonay peak, a phenomenon of permanent humidity known as ‘mar de nubes’ (sea of clouds) caused by the trade winds. This humid air from the north collides with the mountain range, thereby creating a kind of horizontal rain resulting in a specific ecosystem made up of luxuriant valleys. The average temperature is 20°C all year round.

SOIL:

The most common soil in the higher mountain regions is deep and clayey, while, as one approaches lower altitudes towards the scrubland, the soil is more Mediterranean with a good many stones and terraces similar to those of the Priorat.

GRAPE VARIETIES:

WHITE: forastera gomera (90%), listán blanca, marmajuelo, malvasía and pedro ximénez.

RED: listán negra (5%) and negramoll (2%).

Experimental: tintilla castellana, cabernet sauvignon and rubí cabernet.
