LOCATION:

The region stretches to the north of the Duero depression and on both sides of the Pisuerga, bordered by the Cérvalos and the Torozos hills. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of 750 m; the Denomination of Origin extends from part of the municipal area of Valladolid (the wine estate known as ‘El Berrocal’) to the municipality of Dueñas in Palencia, also including Cabezón de Pisuerga, Cigales, Corcos del Valle, Cubillas de Santa Marte, Fuensaldaña, Mucientes, Quintanilla de Trigueros, San Martín de Valvení, Santovenia de Pisuerga, Trigueros del Valle and Valoria la Buena.

CLIMATE:

The climate is continental with Atlantic influences, and is marked by great contrasts in temperature, both yearly and day/ night. The summers are extremely dry; the winters are harsh and prolonged, with frequent frost and fog; rainfall is irregular

SOIL:

The soil is sandy and limy with clay loam which is settled on clay and marl. It has an extremely variable limestone content which, depending on the different regions, ranges between 1% and 35%.

GRAPE VARIETIES:

WHITE: verdejo (preferred), albillo, viura and sauvignon blanc (authorized).
RED: tinta del país (tempranillo), garnacha tinta and garnacha gris (preferred); merlot, syrah and cabernet sauvignon (authorized).

TYPES OF WINE:

Rosés: Produced with at least 60% of the tinta del país variety and at least 20% of white varieties. The vintage must be displayed on the label. Marketed from 31st December of the following year.

Reds: Produced with at least 85% of the tinta del país and the garnacha tinta varieties.
