Moscatel grano menudo
Synonyms: Moorish muscat (Málaga), muscat muscat muscat (Cuenca), white muscat (León), golden muscat (Salamanca), muscat menudo or muscat de la tierra (Rioja) muscat blanc à petits grains, gelber muskateller, brown muscat, muscat canelli and muscat de Frontignan (France).
Small and very compact cluster. Very turgid and consistent grain, with very aromatic pulp. It is a very vigorous grape, with high production and very early ripening. It is very resistant to drought and poor soils. It is said to be the most distinguished of the Muscat family.
Stylistically it offers wines of an intense yellow color, sometimes golden. The aroma most associated with the Muscat variety is that of white flowers and also honey and musk. Its aroma is so particular that due to its special and singular nature it is usually defined as amoscatelado.
Some producers believe that the fundamental key to keeping all its aromatic potential intact is to stop fermentation to prevent all the sugars from turning into alcohol, so that the aroma and sweetness are preserved. It is very common to see it in sweet wines, but also in dry, fruity and aromatic wines, and sparkling wines. In the world, it can be found in many places, in France as the responsible for single-varietal sweets, or in Italy in sparkling wines d'Asti or the Moscato d'Asti appellation.
